Meeting Individual Needs
Overall, our instructional practices have shifted to coaching our students where their needs are greatest while they are at the guided reading table. We are no longer working off of a one-size fits all lesson plan. By making data driven decisions for spot-on guided reading instruction, we meet students’ individual needs throughout the lesson. Through our professional development visits with Carolyn and our attention to implementing ideas from The Next Steps in Guided Reading, we have fine tuned how we teach during guided reading. The changes have shown a great impact in student achievement. We have watched our students soar to success this year which was evident through their increased confidence as readers and thinkers as well as in the growth in their reading levels.
