Book Introductions

I engage students in different types of book introductions depending upon the text complexity and the students’ proficiency with constructing meaning. I use a guided preview when children need support navigating the text and making predictions. When children have learned how to preview and predict a text, I use less supportive options such as a paired or silent preview The following video demonstrates a guided preview with first graders. Notice how I support a genuine conversation about the Ugly Duckling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature_youtu.be=&v=kyVDg0Q0T-8&app=desktop
