Spend Time with Your Students
Spend at least 8 -12 minutes of your guided reading lesson conferring with your students. If they need to improve decoding, listen to them read and teach them specific strategies. If your focus is comprehension, have a short, but meaningful, conversation with each student. Ask students to retell what they read or discuss their inferences, conclusions, questions and confusions. Your goal is to teach each student something today that will help him or her be a better reader tomorrow.
