Teaching Character Traits

Question:

We are currently using the character traits from your book "The Next Steps in Guided Reading.""  Any knowledge of books that support these traits would be greatly appreciated, or other resources.

Answer:

I'm so glad to hear you are teaching those character traits to your students. It is a great way to build academic vocabulary and leads to richer discussions surrounding character analysis. I recommend teachers use characters across the curriculum to teach the traits.  If you think about it, characters from fairy tales, picture books, fables, history and current events will exhibit traits from the list (both positive and negative).  Therefore, I don't recommend a specific set of books to teach the traits -- just use what you have.
